  1. I've had replies from Ford Motor Company and Xerox stating that they do not contribute financially to PP. (As everyone knows)

A few other responses are more interesting - pasted below.

  2. Exxon Mobil:

Thank you for your email expressing your concern of ExxonMobil’s funding of Planned Parenthood.

All of ExxonMobil’s funding for Planned Parenthood organizations has been made through our employee/retiree matching gift and volunteer programs. ExxonMobil’s matching gift and volunteer programs exist to support our employees and retirees in their personal philanthropic giving and community involvement. ExxonMobil’s giving through these programs is based entirely on employees and retirees’ support for these organizations. ExxonMobil’s giving through these programs does not reflect ExxonMobil’s philanthropic priorities or support for community causes.

Exxon Mobil Corporation, together with ExxonMobil Foundation, engages in a range of philanthropic activities to improve education, particularly math and science; promote women as catalysts for economic development; and combat malaria and other infectious diseases in developing countries.

  3. I received a response from Verizon and it leads me to believe that everyone should dig deeper on 'we do not donate to PP..."

Verizon does not donate to PP, but they do have a program to match Employee donations to 'most 501(3)(C) organizations'. When I followed up by asking if there were any criteria regarding which organizations were eligible, I was informed that Verizon does not exclude Planned Parenthood, and from the sounds of things the 'most' is just legal cover and there is no existing criteria for inclusion/exclusion.

So no, Verizon does not explicitly donate to Planned Parenthood. But yes, money is flowing from Verizon to Planned Parenthood if any employee is using the matching program for PP's benefit.

  4. James,

I just replied to you at Vox's, then I saw you were already commenting here. You asked about Matt Walsh: he has a contact form on his blog. Were you looking for something more direct?

I'm adding this site to my RSS feeds, so I should see all posts/comments here.

  5. Macy's:

Thank you for writing to us and expressing your opinion. Please be aware that Macy's makes no direct contributions to Planned Parenthood. Our company does offer a Matching Gift program which allows our employees (we have a workforce of 167,000 Americans) to apply for a company match to their personal gifts to any charitable organization (defined as any organization organized as a 501c3 under the Internal Revenue Service code). Of the many thousands of employee gifts matches each year across the country, a small handful are to Planned Parenthood. But again, these are not direct contributions from the company. We hope this clarifies the nature of our giving program.

Again, we appreciate the time you took to express your viewpoint.

  6. Cail,

Wasn't sure if we should approach him in a coordinated way or not.

I'm a complete novice at this, and I hate being a drag on the process, but this is too important to be embarrassed about that. Anyway, I'm a quick learner, so if you're patient with me, the dumb questions will peter out.

I'll start commenting here unless there are any deletion issues.

  7. Ed, I know what you mean; I'm new at all this too. We're all learning as we go.

My concern with approaching someone more prominent would be that he would get so many similar messages that he'd just get annoyed and ignore them, especially if they're long. So I'd keep it as short as possible, unemotional, and just deliver the info, along the lines of, "Hey, I enjoy your work, and I know you care about [topic], so I thought I'd alert you to [link] in case you haven't seen it." I think with someone who's likely to be receptive, it's probably better not to be too coordinated, so he doesn't feel like he's being pressured into something.

  8. Man, I'm showing and telling my newbiness...

Comments ate the C-nc-r S-c--t- letter again. I have it, at any rate. They claim no longer to be funding any programs with PP as they have in the past.

  9. Coca-Cola, and I have followed up:

Thank you for contacting us. We appreciate the opportunity to respond.

The Coca-Cola Company does not donate to Planned Parenthood.

Please contact us again should you have additional comments or questions.

  14. Daily Signal requested statements from the companies on their list. Coca-Cola appears to be officially off the list (though I did not receive any confirmation about matching gifts).

    Here's the link: http://dailysignal.com/2015/07/23/we-asked-companies-about-their-donations-to-planned-parenthood-heres-how-they-responded/

  15. As noted on Vox Day, Bath and Body Works donates for "education" only. I started a twitter account specifically for ppgate and am just figuring out how to use it. What companies are people focusing right now?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Haus Frau,

I was just thinking about that. There doesn't seem to be a consensus yet.

However, the Daily Signal lists, in bold, the companies that have not provided a response. Seems worthwhile getting them on record to round out the list. See link just above your comment.

  17. I'm @jimmyrepresent, btw.

I sent along the Starbucks response I received to the article's author (@scanlon_kate). That was the only one we have that she didn't.

  18. Pulled from VP, via NCMike:

Here is what I received back from a Wells Fargo rep:

"We received your inquiry regarding Planned Parenthood and appreciate having the chance to respond. In 2014, Wells Fargo contributed more than $281 million to 17,100 community nonprofits nationwide to help create more resilient, sustainable communities and a healthy economy. As part of our giving, Wells Fargo invested $49.4 million to support health and human services, including nonprofits that provide important medical services to women in our communities. Planned Parenthood was a very small recipient of grants in two of our markets, though we do not provide any funding to the nonprofit at the corporate or national level. We understand this issue can be divisive and difficult, with many different community perspectives. Thank you for providing us the opportunity to address your concerns. If you need more information about this recent news coverage, we encourage you to contact Planned Parenthood directly. Thank you for your business."

  19. My twitter is @LullabelleMouse. I do hope we can focus this quickly. I'm not a leader. I need direction. I think a lot of people, especially people who aren't familiar with social networking are like me. I will go looking for the twitter troops.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I understand.

For direct action, I'd say e-mail the remaining companies who have not officially responded, post here.

For indirect, I'm tagging a local talk show host about once a day with updates, and he's put the word out and hitting it pretty hard on the air. (He would have anyway, but I'm attempting to make his life easier).

I'm going to like-minded friends and encouraging them to write letters.

I'm jumping on the subject when I see it on other blogs and FB.

I'm trying to provide material to other writers/journalists to support their stories.

That's what I've got for now. I just keep thinking of what else I can do, and opportunities arise. You're here, after all - keep thinking.

  21. Pepsi responds:

Hi - Thank you for contacting us at PepsiCo.

PepsiCo as a company does not support Planned Parenthood; however, under the rules of our Foundation, we will match an employee’s donation to an organization that meets IRS tax-exempt criteria.

I hope this information is helpful. Thanks again for contacting us.

    Most Sincerely,

  22. AT&T - big win:

Our company matches employee contributions to various 501(c)3 organizations. Under this program, some of our employees selected Planned Parenthood for these contributions. That matching option is no longer available.

    Best Wishes,
    AT&T Foundation

  25. I received this from Progressive and Nike. Excerpts below. My thought is to now respond in a coordinated way to them after you get the initial response I received.

How does this sound (please use a similar question if you receive the initial reply)?

    Hello Mr. Sibel,

I'm glad to know Progressive does not support Planned Parenthood directly, but I also asked if Progressive is comfortable with their matching funds going to a organization like Planned Parenthood in light of what these videos have revealed about their practices?

"We do, however, through our foundation match the charitable giving of our employees to any organization that is an eligible 501(c)(3) recipient. So in short, Progressive does not support Planned Parenthood or any other organization directly, but will support the very diverse contributions made by our employees. We do not tell employees how they should or should not use their judgment in supporting their causes."
    -Jeff Sibel
    Progressive Public Relations
    (440) 395-0803
    Jsibel1@progressive.com

"NIKE, Inc does not have a partnership with Planned Parenthood. However, all NIKE, Inc. employees are eligible for participation in our Employee Matching Gift Program and as part of that program, NIKE, Inc. matches employee contributions to organizations, one of which is the Columbia Willamette Chapter of Planned Parenthood.

    Kind Regards,

    NIKE, Inc. Investor Relations"
